Paracord is a lightweight nylon cord originally used in the suspension lines of US military parachutes. It consists of an outer braided sheath covering 7 interwoven strands. This design gives paracord a smooth outer texture and good elasticity. The outer sheath is rated to a minimum breaking strength of 300 lbs and each interwoven strand is rated at 35 lbs. This gives the paracord an overall minimum breaking strength of 550 lbs.
The military still uses paracord for various things such as attaching equipment to harnesses or securing camouflage netting to vehicles.
In Survival situations the inner strands can be used for sutures, fishing line, or animal snares.
You may find yourself using it to replace a broken shoestring.....
to repair a broken glove.....
or a break in your hitting net.
